The United Nations come up with 17 Sustainable Development Goals that will help people and the planet. UN Secretary-General called the attention of all sectors of society government, civil society, and businesses. Although the government and civil society are doing their part, businesses can make a huge difference if they adapt these goals to their company practices. But in my opinion, to better incorporate these goals it is better to identify which is directly appropriate to your company. For example,
Goal 1: No Poverty is relevant to NGOs working for poverty,
Goal 3: Good health and well being, health care companies could be a good contributor to this goal, and finally for this example is
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth, almost all companies of all sizes will fit in this goal.
After identifying which goal is relevant to the business, let’s find some ideas to help achieve this goal. Companies that act towards the example goals above are:
Goal 1: No Poverty
- Visa expands its financial services to the underserved, to help them grow their local businesses so it can create jobs for people.
Goal 3: Good health and well being
- Kaiser charitable health coverage helps people who do not have access to public and private health care.
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
- Spectra Force is a highly innovative company that hires staff globally. Through their concept of NEWSJOBPHORIA, they provide high-quality services to their customers and employees.
To sum this up, businesses exist and play an important role in society. Not just to create jobs and serve the customer but also to serve and protect the planet.
