In the workplace scenario # 3, I am an auditor with a boutique accounting and financial management firm. We had an intern name Emily who had been working with us for three months, Emily is so dependent to me as I always need to explain anything to her as she can’t seem to do anything without telling her what to do. She is graduating this month and she’s asking me if she can put me as her reference, that gives a dilemma if what will be my response to her.
In solving this dilemma, First I will talk to her and tell honestly what my evaluation to her performance during her intern is, I will tell her the things to be improve and also give her some advice to help her to be better and when Emily accept those advice and willing to do the improvement then I will give her a chance by letting her put my name as her reference. Second, I will tell her that she can put my name if her whole performance evaluation during her entire intern is good enough. Lastly, I will tell her in a nice way that she cannot put me as her reference because I think she is not yet ready and needs more improvement to her performance that she is always welcome to comeback when she is ready and more confident to be qualified to do the job.
Making ethical decisions in response to a dilemma is difficult but with the use of ethical decision-making framework, it will guide us on how to respond in some ethical dilemmas. Through this ethical decision-making framework, it gives me knowledge on how to handle any difficult situations that may arise in the future by analyzing and evaluating ethical dilemma for me to recognize if my action is right or wrong before making an acceptable decision.
