Kotter’s 8 Step Change Model is very popular to make changes in an organization. It is a process that is designed to help an organization to organizational change. They can implement make changes very easily with help of this model. It has 8 stages which make it easy to make any changes. Each stage lays out exactly what has to be done to keep a change on track.
The 8 stages of this model
1 Create Urgency. …
2 Build Coalition
3 Create a Vision for Change
4 Communicate the Vision
5 Remove Obstacles
6 Create Short-Term Wins
7 Build on the Change
8 Anchor the Changes in Corporate Culture
This model can be implemented into the working Coast mountain college to reduce climate impacts in their operation. According to the first step, we should establish a sense of urgency and for this, we can spread awareness about the threat of climate change. For instance, due to carbon emissions, the temperature of the planet is increasing day by day but people have very less knowledge about it we have to reduce carbon emissions otherwise we have to prepare for the worst future. There are various adverse effects of increasing global warming such as the sea level rise which is responsible for floods and unexpected rain. Overall the weather pattern has changed over the last 2 decades because of global warming and with this information, we can convince everyone that we need to work on it immediately.
For the second stage, we can build a team with the help of college staff and students. Also, we can include some persons from management. It would be easy for the team to select leaders because there are already concerned departments in the college and with help of this we can make a powerful team.
To complete the third step, a vision for change is mandatory. So the planting of more trees and reducing consumption of fossil fuels are good visions.
To remove obstacles, we can track the activities of the team and can sort out all problems easily and by organizing some meetings we can remove conflicts in the team. Communication is the appropriate method to solve these problems.
For the sixth stage, we can set some short-term targets Such as can specify an area to plant trees and after achieving can celebrate this moment to motivate the team.
In the seventh stage, we can analyze previous targets and can make new ones that can make greater changes.
For the final stage, when all the changes become a part of Coast mountain college we can motivate authorities to create new supports and changes. For example, after reducing carbon emissions in a particular area then can work at the regional level and after that at the national level.
It is not working of a single person but with help of this model and by collaborating with others we can make a solid team that can change society and can enjoy a healthy lifestyle. By using the above steps we can reduce the impacts of climate change within an organization.
