Undoubtedly, dollar chain stores and dollarama are know for their cheaper products. From household products, to children’s toys, you can find every single thing you might need. Most of the poor families or new immigrants living in tight budgets prefer to buy stuff from stores like dollarama or other dollar trees stores because of their cheap offers as well as quantity and quality they provide. Have you ever thought how these stores are running by providing us cheap products? How they are making profits by providing you same quality and quantity products as other stores like save on and Walmart on such cheap prices.

The answer is a calculated formula devised by dollar stores, which begins with the physical location and size of their stores and works its way down to what they choose to carry and how they purchase it. On the other hand, people might not actually get the deal they’re thinking they’ll get. People are deceived into believing that they’re getting everything at cheaper prices but reality is far from that. Markus Giesler, a professor at the Schulich School of Business at York University said that the way the merchandise is presented to us is designed to make us buy more than we absolutely need, that’s also, quite honestly, the trap that many consumers fall into. Myself included. (Matteis, 2022)

According to the new CBC investigation in which they have compared the 17 identical everyday usage items from dollarama, dollar chain stores and Walmart. They have compared these items on three scales and the results was shocking. Most of the dollarama products range from$1.50 to $4 and dollars chain stores $1.50 to $2. However, the unit per products is the real case, according to the investigation, Froot Loops cost $1.25 at Dollar Tree versus $4 at Walmart and $2 at Dollarama. However, the Dollar chain store box was only 87 grammes, compared to 345 grammes at Walmart and 230 grammes at Dollarama; converted to price per unit, the Dollar Tree product costs more per 100 grammes. These types of variations were seen in numerous products and many products were expensive than offered in other stores.

People should keep open minds while shopping through these stores and should not fall for less prices rather they should compare and contrast products from different stores while doing so. Today’s customer should awake and realise one’s rights and powers.
