In this activity, I tried to find the best solution to the dilemma (scenario #2) of which whether I should tell the truth to our department manager that Janet is drinking beer every lunch, or I would deny it. While trying to find a solution I feel guilty and anxious. Guilty because it feels like I am betraying my friend and the worst part is she might lose her job. I am anxious about what might happen to me if I deny that my friend is drunk during lunch, would it affect my image in my workplace.
After reading the Framework for Ethical Decision, it all makes sense to me that for me to make good decisions, not just in the workplace but also in life in general it should be ethical. Before, I used to base my decision on what I feel is right. But according to what I read, ethics is not about feelings, because that can make us uncomfortable to do what is right.
So, in this scenario, I come up with a solution that I will tell the truth to the department head. For the reason that it will produce best rather than harm and this aligns with what kind of person I want to be.
Now that I know how to make an ethical decision, I will apply it to my daily life. The next time I have to deal with a difficult decision involving family, friends and work. I will follow the 5 steps to make an ethical decision because I believe that it can give me the best outcome.
