Climate change has become a serious issue in the world. It is well known that we are surrounded by limited resources like fresh water, fresh air, land, and other fuels. Human practices are the most common reason behind this. Today, people are in a race to fulfill their desires, and to achieve them they are crossing their limits which resulted in pollution, global warming, and depletion of resources. Due to these reasons, the issue of climate change has emerged.
Many businesses are also responsible for this too. Businesses use various methods to stay in the competition and earn more profit. Sometimes they do not care about the effects on the environment caused by these practices. Let us take the example of packaging. well, the packaging of products defines the brand and is a crucial factor in increasing sales. But, this packaging uses a lot of paper and plastic. Another thing is that waste from the businesses practicing degrades land and water too. The meat industry is also responsible for climatic changes. It is fact that 60% of greenhouse gases are released due to meat consumption. Many businesses deal with the meat products like Tim Hortons, and Mcdonald’s. Such businesses should find alternatives for these products which can help decrease the harmful impacts of gases on the environment.
Kotter’s method can be utilised to cope with this issue. The 8 steps involves the active participation of businesses to handle this problem. According to Kotter, leadership can crucially play the role to combat with this. The solution is to have the global community, multinational businesses and the three major groups in society being people, government and industry moderated by influential groups such as the academic and scientific communities and the media, to become aligned on climate change, its causation, what the solutions are and what these solutions entail.
