Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a general belief that a business has a responsibility towards society and environment. Currently, many huge business organisations are adopting CSR in their business policies. Despite of what we think about certain companies, they’re not all about making profits and one such company is Walt Disney Company regarding which everyone’s first thought would be “It’s all about having fun”. However, CSR is a fundamental policy of their brand.

“Every company has a unique impact on the world. At Disney, creating stories and experiences that inspire and bring people together is ours. Our stories encourage children and adults to see the world in a positive light, to believe that anything is possible, and to take action to make their world a better place.”, says Jennifer Cohen Executive Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, The Walt Disney Company in company’s 2021-CSR report. To address and fulfil all the assurances in this statement, the company has activated a new CSR strategy in its offerings and included the response to Covid-19. As the pandemic had an adverse effect on businesses and communities in the whole world, the company had been working to promote the safety and well-being of its employees and guests and also increased support to local communities in need. For example, Disney launched a cross-Company campaign, Feed the Love, which raised awareness and donations of about $2.8 million to Feeding America’s food security efforts. Also, Disney Theatrical Group, raised more than $615,000 for COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Funds (2020 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, 2021).

This firm has received more criticism than praise for its efforts, but that hasn’t prevented it from addressing previous faults and correcting them in the future. The Walt Disney Company has proved that it does not matter in which line of business you are operating in, you can still make a change with your commitment towards society and set an example for others to adopt CSR in their policies and bring a change to make the world a better place.
