Here we have workplace dilemma, socializing outside work, that we have discussed in the class. To resolve this dilemma, we came up with three solutions. One is, we should have potluck instead of after work gathering. Second is, partying with peers should be stopped and the last one is playing favoritism and go out with selected employees, which is not appropriate. I found this dilemma interesting as I was curious to know the ways to tackle with such scenario.

Carlo thought that because of Amna’s religious belief, she would not like to go to the places where alcohol is served that’s why he didn’t ask her. He was right at his end. But Amna felt bad and raised her concern about it as she didn’t know the real reason behind this gesture.

In my opinion, Carlo should have asked Amna if she is interested to go the pub. If she denies, then there is no fault from Carlo’s side but what if she agrees to go with them but didn’t drink alcohol. This miscommunication creates misunderstanding and roughness between Carlo and Amna. This could impact their work as well.

Getting into this situation can be uncomfortable as nobody wants make others feel left out. If I am in the Amna’s shoes, I would have asked Carlo separately the reason why he didn’t invite me to avoid the confusion. In future, if I face the same situation, I would rather ask my co-workers for suggestions which is suitable for everyone. I would want my colleagues to have a good time and get a chance to know each other.
