We just finished our reading topic and its discussion which is related to labour in the Covid-19 pandemical. The business industry experiencing shortage of labour due to various reasons such as low wages, health related issues, feel unsecure, stressful workplace, work from homeset.
There are various areas that need to be focus according to management perspective view in order to solve the problem of the current labour shortage during this challenging time. So, we suggest the following solutions-
Management should make sure that they are not putting extra or non- essential responsibilities on the workers who are already working for long hours for low wages. It reduces the stress of the workers so that they can concentrate more on their work to enhance their productivity. There should also be a flexibility in their schedule. Some of the workers do multiple job so they need flexible time in morning or evening shift. Another solution is that if management is able to convert some of the part timers into full timers and offer them benefits package that’s ever better for the workers. Management should be cooperative and there ought to be a transparency and open communication between the employees and employer for their job stability. As we know that during Covid-19 pandemic trend of work from home starts and many people loss their jobs just because of that they were not able to work with some software and new technology because of lack of knowledge. Therefore, management should organize a skill building program to enhance the competence of the workers so that they feel comfortable with the online work. Furthermore, there should be sick hours, vacations holidays and adjustable job hours for precarious workers also. There should be equal opportunities for full time and part time workers because both of them do equal daily task and hard work also it is the need for the present Covid-19 scenario. If the opportunities should be same there should be more stability and security in their job. One of the major solutions to curb this problem is increasing wages and other benefits like medical and retirement plans for the employees.

Hi,
I would like to appreciate your research work on labour shortage. You brilliantly showed the ways we can tackle the problem of labour shortage through retaining our current workforce and preparing them for future upscaling of technologies. One of your solution to the problem which I like most was that organizations should organize skill building programs in order to train their workforce to adapt the technology.
I would like to add some more ideas which could be done by the organizations in order to cope with the situation of labour shortage. Automation plays crucial role in getting maximum work done with minimum labour required, Organizations should adapt more and more automation in their regular operations to decrease the demand of workforce. Outsourcing is one of the best solutions to this problem especially in customer support domain, countries like US, UK, Australia, where minimum wage rate is higher due to currency differences, often get their work done through outsourcing the work in countries like India. This help them cut their costs and workload. Engaging employees into the core work of the company’s identity will help organizations attract and retain precious talent. New opportunities and growth should be created in the workplace in order to keep the workforce motivated and reduce employee turnover (Rubin, 2021).

The things you were learned in your book sessions are explained by you very well. You explained, how the labor was affected due to the covid 19 pandemic. and explained the reason for online work. you explained it properly but according to me much more can be added to it. almost everything and every business were affected by covid and every business or any other field have to labor. labor works everywhere so we cannot say that the laborers had to lose their jobs just because they were not able to do online work or work at home. there are many reasons which were raised due to covid not even in Canada but also in every country.
For instance, almost every kind of restaurant was closed when it was the time of covid. And the food industry is a big industry so just because of this restriction the agricultural laborers were free because had no work to do because there was no demand for their product.
