I was part of client service team. Since I was one of the senior team members, expectations from me were on higher side. One day, it was busier than usual. I got an urgent case. The request had to be resolved immediately. So, I left all the work aside and started working on his request. My computer system was lagging so I noted some customer’s information on paper and moved to another system to work. Nobody was not allowed to disclosed any confidential information. I finished that request and moved back to my regular work.
Next day, I realized that I forgot to shred that paper. I was nervous and anxious. Should I stay quiet or should I reach out to my boss? There were multiple thoughts running in my mind. I could have stayed quiet. But I choose to be honest. I was scared if anyone else found out, it would be bad for me. I might get spot on my goodwill. So, I gathered some courage and went to my boss and let him know everything. Taking this step was needed to get some solution. I was ready for any punishment. After listening to me and boss told me that all the papers were shredded by cleaners because they were instructed to do that at the end of the day. So that no one can use it further. It was a relief for me. He gave me last chance so that don’t repeat this and appreciated me for my honesty. At times, being honest and accepting your mistake is not easy but required. This is the lesson I leaned.
